Abstract

The Antananarivo agglomeration lives daytime mostly from nocturnal activities closed to its sourcing from rural and periurban trade collectors, also by retailers coming from the other regions of Madagascar for stocking up into markets on major city all day long and travelling nightly. Those nocturnal activities use small and standard vehicles to carry products and actors changing nearby markets and roadway stations in meeting points of trade collectors and welcoming spaces. They insure minimum of surety for drivers and nocturnal travelers and allow development of other informal activities. This study seeks to analyze the functioning of those essential activities for agglomeration life, and show the importance of nights as real lungs of capital.
